Why shop from a farmers' market? How our food is produced is a very important issue. A farmers' market
gives you the chance to:
- taste and buy fresh local food
- meet the producers who grow or make the food
- buy
food without excessive packaging
- support the local economy
- find a wider variety of produce
Farmers' markets are defined as markets in which growers, farmers
and producers from a defined local area are present to sell their own produce. All products will have
been grown, reared, caught, brewed, pickled, baked, made or processed by the stallholder.
Consumers
can feel confident of the origins of the product, ask questions of the producer and get closer to sources
of local foods. The producers get valuable feedback from consumers.
Farmers'
markets also offer a low-cost entry point for many producers who have not sold direct to the public
before.

When are the farmers' markets? The farmers' markets take place on the first and third Wednesday of every month. All
markets take place from 10am to 2pm.How do I sell at a farmers' market? The farmers' markets are run by the Wiltshire Farmers' Markets Association, in partnership
with Salisbury District Council and supported by Wiltshire and Swindon Rural Regeneration Partnership.
The association encourages environmentally sound methods of production.
And its members do not use factory-farming methods or GM crops or ingredients. Part of its ethos is
to bring customers closer to the people who produce their food. These markets give that opportunity.
