Our Farmers Markets

Farmers markets are markets that are usually held out-of-doors in large, communal public spaces that allow farmers to sell their produce to the general public. The United Kingdom has many such farmers markets, and we most certainly recommend you should make time to discover the wonders of fresh, locally sourced produce. At all of the farmers markets up and down the country the produce is always locally-grown and very fresh, and since the food does not have to travel very far to get to your table the difference in freshness can clearly be tasted. Most farmers markets also feature produce that is organically grown, including humanely reared meats, handmade cheese, fresh free range eggs and poultry and home made cakes and pastries.

Farmers markets are important to local economies because it allows farmers to stay in business and turn a profit in difficult times by cutting out the middle man. Supporters of the system also argue that it preserves natural resources and helps people understand the origins of their food more; a far cry from this day of pre-packaged long life produce. Preserving the farmland by supporting local markets is also very good for the environment and is far more sustainable. Admittedly prices are somewhat higher for this kind of produce but it is a very small price to pay for the peace of mind and the exceptional quality of the food you will be eating. Sustainably-managed farms also conserve soil and clean water in our communities and provide a habitat for wildlife. Here at Farmers Markets Online we look forward to helping you discover the delights of fresh produce.
