Description
Huntingdon Farmers' Market was established in April 2003. It is a
Certified Farmers' Market, which means that it is independently
inspected and certified to the standards set by the National Farmers'
Retail and Markets Association (FARMA). Certified Farmers' Markets are
recognised by the FARMA logo.
Farmers' markets are special
because the food there must be from the local area and sold by the
people who produce it. Bought-in produce is not allowed.
At Huntingdon Farmers' Market the producers come from within a 30 miles
radius, going up to 50 miles for products that cannot be sourced more
locally. Every item sold must contain local ingredients.
Guest
Producers from more than 50 miles away are permitted to attend the
market if their product cannot be found locally. Under FARMA rules,
each Guest Producer may only attend on a non-regular basis.
Huntingdon Town Partnership is proud of the high-quality Farmers'
Market in the town and the part we played in helping the District
Council to set it up. We continue to support the market, particularly
through a strong involvement in promoting it and its benefits for the
public, the farmers and food producers who trade there.
Fresh, high-quality, seasonal produce that can be found at the Farmers' Market includes:
apples, asparagus, beef, biscuits, bread, cakes, cheeses, chicken,
chilli peppers, chutney, cucumbers, cut flowers, duck, eggs, flour,
fruit pies, game in season, garden plants, greengages, ham, honey,
jams, lamb, ostrich meat, pâtés, pears, plums, pork, pork pies,
preserves, rabbit, raspberries, rhubarb, sausages, strawberries, trout,
vegetables, venison & woven willow.
