Baking and Homewares

Baking and homewares, like arts and crafts, are something of a recent addition to farmers markets. It is perfectly understandable why baking and homewares fits in perfectly with the concept of locally grown and ethically sourced produce, and it allows farmers markets to present a more general array of products rather than focusing solely on farmed goods. Baking and homewares are partly responsible for the increased popularity of farmers markets in recent years; baking and homewares turn a farmers market into something that can be visited more as a day out to enjoy yourself rather than simply as somewhere to purchase produce for the week, and baking and homewares has in turn attracted many people to farmers markets who previously would not have considered visiting.

It can be said with a great degree of confidence that when you visit farmers markets up and down the country the baking and homewares that are on offer will be some of the finest you have ever tasted. Many markets are understandably strict about what products are allowed to be sold from their stalls, often there are a number of criteria regarding how local the food is, how ethical it is, how much of an impact on the environment it has had and many other simular rules and regulations that must be adhered to.

This ensures that farmers markets stay true to their roots and never sell mass produced, poor quality food and homewares, and also ensures that the majority of baking and homewares on sale are subject to the same regulations as meat and vegetables so you can be certain the the ingredients used by the bakers themselves are fresh, locally sourced, often organic and of the highest available quality. This means that we, as consumers of the many baking and homeswares on offer at farmers markets can sample the finest tasting and must luxurious cakes, pastries, pies, and breads, taste some of the most sumptuous jams, preserves and jellies, and take home a bag of locally produced sweets for the journey home. We would urge everyone to sample the delights of baking and homewares from your local farmers market as soon as possible, if you appreciate the finer things in life you will not be disappointed.
